Costumes & Props

Since 1991 we have been lending costumes/props to theatre groups and nonprofit organizations. In 1991 The Musical, Comedy Guild,  The Sault Theatre Workshop and The Sault Ste. Marie Opera Society decided to house all of their costumes under one roof. Since that time we have added the costumes of several other theatre groups. We are now one of the largest costume houses in Ontario. This costume facility is handled by volunteers who freely give their time due to a love of costuming! We operate on a very tiny budget from year to year as we believe in being able to offer costumes to the community organizations at recovery cost only.

Our inventory is one of the largest in Ontario with close to 13,000 pieces. We have costumes from every period and some of them are vintage. We can costume plays with casts from one to seventy. Most of the theatre groups have been very good at returning the costume pieces clean and in good repair. However some have not so we have had to instituted a user fee. We are willing to send costumes to theatre groups in other communities and other provinces or Michigan. Some of the plays/musicals that we have fully costumed are Les Miserables, Annie, Into the Woods and many, many others.

All groups are required to pay a deposit fee that will be applied to the user fee of $3.00 per costume or $5.00 per actor for one complete outfit. Additional outfits will be at the rate of $3.00.

Commercial groups will be required to pay a rental fee of $25.00 to $150.00 or more depending upon the number of costume pieces/properties required and for how long.

“PLEASE MAKE CHEQUES PAYABLE TO “CTC COSTUMES AND PROPS.”

Costuming a show does not end with the run of a show. Costumes must be checked, cleaned, restored and all items borrowed/rented returned within three weeks of the show closing.

We have a number of small set props and hand props. These are available for use. The same deposit/rental fee applies to help cover the wear and tear on these pieces.

The deposit will be applied to the rental after costumes and props are returned clean and in good repair. If necessary, cost of cleaning, repairs, and/or replacement will be added to the cost of borrowing.

Required deposits are as follows:

$100.00 for:  All large theatre groups, groups from outside of Sault Ste. Marie, large school productions

$50.00 for:   Small theatre productions (1-12 actors), service clubs, classes, non-profit  organizations

They are not available for Halloween rental.

The maintenance of this service is coordinated by VOLUNTEER representatives of The Sault Theatre Workshop and The Musical Comedy Guild.
